Privacy Policy
Last updated 1 November 2026
At Lexic Quest (lexic.quest) we keep data collection to a minimum. This policy explains what we collect when you play, why, and how we look after it.
1. Information we collect
- Gameplay: the puzzles you start and solve, your time and number of moves.
- Leaderboard name: a name, only if you choose to add one to your score.
- Approximate location: your town or city and country, worked out from your connection when you play. It's shown next to scores and in the live feed. We don't record your IP address.
- A random player ID: stored in your browser so we can group your scores and streaks. It isn't linked to your name, email or device.
- Puzzles you create: the words and the creator name you enter.
2. How we use it
- To run the game: leaderboards, streaks and the live "Who's Playing" feed. While you have a quest open, that feed shows your name (if you've set one), city, quest and timer. This live status isn't stored and disappears when you close the game.
- To show anonymous site-wide statistics.
- To improve the game and keep it free of spam and abuse.
3. Sharing
We don't sell or trade your information. We use a few trusted services to run the site: Vercel (hosting), Supabase (database), ipinfo.io (approximate location) and Google AdSense (ads). Leaderboard names, approximate locations and scores are public by design.
4. Storage on your device
We use your browser's local storage to remember your theme, sound setting, streak and random player ID. You can clear it at any time in your browser settings. You can also stop your plays from appearing publicly under Settings → "Show my plays".
5. Advertising
Lexic Quest shows ads from Google AdSense to help keep the game free. Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can manage personalised ads at Google Ad Settings, and read how Google uses data at policies.google.com.
6. Security
Our database uses row level security, so the public can only read the information shown on the site. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.
7. Your choices
To have a name or puzzle removed, or to ask about your data, email support@lexic.quest.
8. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
